‘Over 100 patients get treatment on first day since fire damaged hospital’

Srinagar, Mar 07 (KNO): More than 100 patients received treatment on the first day after Bone and Joint Hospital at Barzulla resumed out patients department (OPD) services since the fire damaged the facility last week. Medical Superintendent Bone and Joint Hospital Dr Mian Suhail confirmed to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that OPD services were resumed today. He said that 105 patients were treated at the Hospital. The three-storied hospital was damaged after major fire broke out at the Valley’s lone orthopedic facility on Friday resulted in suspension of both inpatients department and OPD services. According to Dr Suhail, they cannot admit patients in the hospital but can provide them consultation. He said that emergency theatre is expected to be made operational in sometime. “We will start it (emergency theatre) but not immediately,” added Dr Suhail. An official from Government Medical College Srinagar said emergency theatre will be made functional in the next 2-3 days after getting clearance from Roads and Buildings Department. He said that fire and water has partially damaged the support system of the facility. The official said that a Trauma Unit has been set up at SMHS Hospital Srinagar and it caters to patients with poly-trauma. He added that thirty persons injured in a grenade attack at Amira Kadal on Sunday were treated at the Unit. He said that the patients who were evacuated from Bone and Joint Hospital in the wake of fire required hospitalization. Of them, 37 are being treated at SMHS Hospital while 18 patients were referred to SKIMS Medical College Bemina and the rest with minor problems were discharged—(KNO)
